What is it? Meditative Inquiry is not a technique or a learned practice, with steps to be mastered. As such, it's challenging to describe. However often words are used to concretely define something, they have an equally amazing ability to transmit a sense of the wordless nature in which they were evoked. Certain words appear transparent to themselves, instantly dissolving, without trace of understanding. They leave no concept or gain. This sharing attempts to evoke words in this way.
Meditative Inquiry is an invitation to tenderize, stumble, and open to it all. Together. It's an invitation to intimacy with these words tumbling off page right now, forming into unusual mind shapes and textures. Which somehow communicate and celebrate something of the resonant presence wherein they sprung into movement.
Inquiry is an invitation to relax into wonder, as a devotion to ourselves, one another, and life. Through looking in this way with another, we gradually and experientially acclimate our nervous systems to welcoming and exploring the usually unseen movements of resistance in our lives. When unseen, these movements appear to innocently, endlessly, creatively form themselves into the ten thousand faces of identity, and the dance of suffering, trauma, and confusion in our lives.
Through deep listening to these expressions of suffering, while feeling into the presence of We - the shared alive, awake, timeless, presence in which they are known as one - life may flow and express in new ways. These patterns may find momentary rest, belonging, and love.
Here, even the creative play of building blocks of perception such as distance, time, subject-object, and reflective knowing, are revealed to not be as they initially appear - fixed, separate, and in need of something. These so called elements of perception reveal themselves as deep, preverbal, conditioned patterns, with no essential difference from the transient flutter of leaves. Kelp joyfully waving to itself in the silent, sun streaked depths of the deep ocean. This fluid waving of insight cannot be carried to another moment. It's self-validatingly Here. Or, apparently, obscured.
Through listening and wondering together, these places of fear, and constriction within all of us, can bubble forth to be loved, held, and seen. Many of these patterns emerged initially through relationship. Through relationship, they may be fully invited, and within the container of Meditative Inquiry - lovingly, welcomingly, listening - together they may find new life and healing.
Inquiry wordlessly whispers that awakening, freedom, love, and connection, are endlessly impersonal processes. As life endlessly wakes up to itself through these amazing bodies and minds, each moment holds its own truth. There is no goal to this process of devotion. To partake is to brighten and dance our ever evolving, healing, growing, and learning human dance - breathing, settling, growing, and loving with no other.
Logistics: 1-1 inquiry is a shared space of discovery. There are no teachers or students, although one person may hold space for another in a different way, depending on what's emerging in the shared space. In the coming together, there is no exchange of money.
